Lithuanian Data Archive for Social Sciences and Humanities (LIDA) is a centre of expertise in data acquisition, preservation, dissemination and promotion and is curator of European Social Survey (ESS) in Lithuania.  It is associated with Kaunas University of Technology, Faculty of Social Sceinces, Policy and Public Administration Institute and is funded by the Republic of Lithuania Ministry of Education and Science.

Founded in 2006 as a two year national level project „Storage and administration of empirical data  and information: Lithuanian humanities and  social science data archive (LiDA)“ ,  archive develops its activities  by a new  two year national level project „Development of  Lithuanian Data Archive for  Social Science and Humanities (LiDA)“.

LiDA is the youngest data archive  for Social Science and Humanities in Europe, though, already acquires over 70 data sets on various Lithuanian political and social science attitudes and is integrated in Library research system.

The aim of  Lithuanian Data Archive for Social Sciences and Humanities (LIDA) is to provide the access to empirical data for scholars, researchers, PhD students and post-doctorates, to initiate and provide support to empirical research, to promote data storage and exchange eventually increasing the possibilities of research application and influence to  the  development of  social and human resources.

LiDA is responsible for:

  • Services and operations- data storage and administration.
  • Development and promoting – providing software and teaching packages, teaching and giving consultations on the data management, program management, research methodology, data analysis and etc. issues. 
  • Data confrontation seminars – 5-6 seminars a year all over the Lithuania.
  • Contract activities –  applied research,  international projects, European Social Survey (ESS).

LiDA provides resource discovery and support for secondary use of quantitative data in research, teaching and learning.
